The 300,000 dollar transfer clears and Maya's surgery is scheduled. At midnight Damien makes Elara read his rules aloud: never lie, available dawn to midnight, wear what he provides, never enter the west room. She fights for one clause of her own — Sundays belong to her sister — and signs.
Dress Code
A rack of couture invades Elara's tiny apartment — Rule Three in action. Seated beside Damien in the boardroom as his executive shadow, she keeps her own blouse on as one button of rebellion. He adjusts her lapel with two slow fingers: keep the spine, lose the blouse. Then a gala invitation arrives bearing the name Hale.
The Gala Rule
At the Hale Foundation gala Damien fastens a diamond necklace at Elara's nape and claims her with a single word: mine. Ex-fiancee Vivienne Hale circles, and Victor Hale toasts to debts repaid with his eyes on Damien. On the dance floor Damien invents a new rule: do not leave my sight tonight.
Thirteen Floors
Leaving the gala, Elara stops the elevator between floors and demands to know how Victor Hale knows her father's name. In violet emergency light, breath-close against the mirrored wall, Damien gives her only this: Hale is not a man you meet, he is a debt you inherit. Later she catches him staring at an old photograph in his desk drawer.
The West Room
Tabloids explode with gala photos and paparazzi camp at Elara's door, so Damien moves her into his penthouse guest wing. At the end of the corridor waits a black door with no handle, only a keypad. At 3 a.m. they share his mother's moonlit piano — until a call pulls him behind that door.
Her Father's Name
Elara confronts Damien over breakfast and he lays the past bare: the fraudulent audit that destroyed his father was certified by Hale's accountant — Thomas Quinn, her father, who died in a convenient car accident one week before trial. Her mother shrieks down the phone: never let a Cross near this family.
Desk Negotiation
Elara tears the rules page in half and refuses to be a weapon — until Damien shows her that Maya's hospital has belonged to Hale for two years. When she jabs a finger at his chest he catches her wrist mid-air, thumb over her racing pulse. New terms are struck over the torn contract, and across the street a telephoto lens clicks.

Shattered by her father's signature, Elara flees into the storm — and Damien steps out of the car into the rain after her. He has read everything her father ever wrote: honest men leave fingerprints, and that signature has none. In the steamed car their hands lock, until Maya calls: a man with a silver ring just visited her ward.
