The Three Rules

Nora Hale takes the strangest job in the city: night secretary to hotel owner Julian Vale, shift starting at midnight. He gives her three rules — never arrive before twelve, never set foot on floor thirteen, always answer the phone that rings at 3 A.M. The ink is barely dry when the clock strikes three and Julian vanishes.

Locked02

Whisper at Midnight

On her first patrol of the 'empty' hotel, Nora finds a poured glass of wine and a lipstick stain — someone is always here. Julian straightens her collar and wipes wax from her wrist, every restrained touch charged. Then every candle in the ballroom dies at once.

Locked03

The 3 A.M. Call

The 3 A.M. phone rings and the voice on the line knows Nora's name, her age, her father's watch — and leaves a message: 'It moved tonight. Not safe.' Julian, shaken, calls the caller a dead man. Nora's search turns up an obituary: Adrian Vale, burned to death three years ago.

Locked04

Guests Without Names

Julian has Nora host a private dinner for twelve veiled guests with no names and no registry. An old woman grips her wrist and whispers, 'You have his eyes.' After the guests vanish, a smoke-blackened matchbook remains on the table — inscribed in her father's handwriting.

Locked05

Between Floors

The brass elevator stalls between twelve and fourteen, trapping Nora and Julian in red emergency light, his thumb resting on her racing pulse. Footsteps cross the roof of the car and he covers her eyes: some things, once seen, can't be unseen. When the doors open, she glimpses the floor that doesn't exist.

Locked06

The Night Manager's Logbook

Old doorman Ezra secretly slips Nora her father's burned logbook. The final entry, written the night of the fire, says Mr. Reed was on floor thirteen and was not alone — and the next page has been torn out. On the rooftop, a flash of white satin: someone is watching her.

Locked07

The Woman in White Satin

Celeste Marchand, all white satin and razor charm, sweeps in uninvited claiming she once belonged to the hotel. She reads Nora instantly, warns that the last girl who listened too closely got a funeral with no body, and leaves a lipstick-stained cigarette matching the one from the roof.

Locked08

Rule Two

Nora breaks rule two and climbs to the iron door of floor thirteen, where something moves inside. Julian drags her away and pins her to the stairwell wall, furious and afraid, until she reveals her father died in this hotel. Then the door handle turns from the inside.

Locked09

Rain on Black Glass

On a rain-lashed night drive, Julian buckles Nora's seatbelt himself and orders her to look only at him when his uncle speaks. Chairman Marcus Reed probes her name from behind a kindly smile; she stays silent. As the car pulls away, Marcus murmurs that he has buried a Hale before.

Locked10

Floor Thirteen

The 3 A.M. caller warns that Marcus's men are inside and Julian is stalling them — Nora is the only one left. She takes the hidden key and opens the iron door on thirteen to find a candlelit wall of arson evidence, her father's photo circled in red, and a living man: Adrian Vale.
