Does Talkie AI allow NSFW? The rules and age ratings, explained

Talkie is an AI character chat app: users design characters, called Talkies, and chat with their own creations or with characters other people have made. The app is operated by SUBSUP PTE. LTD., and its website says it is powered by MiniMax, the Shanghai AI company.[5][4][1][9]

Talkie’s FAQ answers the NSFW question directly: pornographic and violent content are prohibited under its terms of service, though it aims to support a diverse range of character types “within safe parameters”.[3]

There is no official setting, subscription tier or age check that unlocks adult content on Talkie. Romance and flirtation can exist; sexual content is off the table.

The Adult Content section of Talkie’s community guidelines is broader than many people expect. It prohibits both explicit sexual content and content with suggestive or implicit sexual undertones, including:[1]

• Content containing nudity or sexually suggestive imagery.[1]
• Pornographic or sexually explicit material in any form.[1]
• Sexually suggestive poses, gestures or descriptions, and content that objectifies or inappropriately sexualizes individuals.[1]
• Any content involving sexual exploitation, abuse or non-consensual activity.[1]

Minor safety is a separate, stricter rule. Talkie says it protects both real and virtual minors — human users and fictional characters alike — and that any content sexualizing minors is strictly prohibited.[1]

The guidelines also bar graphic violence and gore, content promoting suicide or self-harm, hate speech, illegal activity, and sharing personal information in public spaces.[1]

This is the main reason the rules are strict. Talkie’s terms of service say you must be at least 14 years old to use it, except where local law sets a higher minimum — 16 in countries such as Brazil, Germany and Ireland, and 15 in countries such as France and Denmark.[2]

Its privacy policy repeats the floor: the services are not intended for anyone under 14 or under the local minimum age, and Talkie says it will restrict access and delete the account if it learns an underage person is using the apps.[4]

An app open to 14-year-olds cannot also be an adult content platform, which is why there is no 18+ zone to opt into.

On Google Play, Talkie carries a Teen rating with a Sexual Themes content descriptor, plus notes that users interact and that the app has in-app purchases.[5]

The iOS picture is different. In December 2024 the South China Morning Post reported that Talkie had been removed from Apple’s US App Store, that Talkie attributed this to “technical reasons”, and that the app stayed downloadable on Google Play.[7]

When we checked in October 2026, the SUBSUP app listed in Apple’s US store was Talkie Lab - AI Playground, first released in February 2025 and rated 17+; the original Talkie iOS listing did not come up.[6]

• Character edits that do not show up straight away: Talkie says all AI settings go through moderation, which can delay updates or temporarily remove a character flagged as inappropriate.[3]
• Replies that steer away from topics: Talkie says its AI is designed to automatically filter content against regional laws and regulations, and advises users to avoid topics prohibited by local law.[3]
• Account action for repeat violations: the guidelines say Talkie may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly disregard the rules, and that its moderation decisions are final.[1]
• Characters that forget earlier scenes: the FAQ notes that AI memory is technically limited, so older parts of a conversation get “forgotten”.[3]

There is also a gap between the rules and the feed. Bark, a parental-control company, reported in its 2024 review that it found chats that were sexual in nature on Talkie, and recommended the app for ages 17 and up. Rule-breaking content existing for a while is not the same as it being allowed.[8]

According to the same independent review, Talkie has a Teenager Mode that restricts searching, following, commenting and explicit content, and needs a parent-set passcode to switch off. Talkie’s own policy pages do not describe this mode, so check the app before relying on it.[8]

On payment: Talkie offers free use and a paid subscription, Talkie+, billed monthly through the app store. Neither changes the content rules.[2]

Searches about Talkie’s filter attract “uncensored” prompt tricks. We do not cover them: they break the terms you agreed to, can cost you your account, and on an app whose audience starts at 14 they are exactly what the minor-safety rules exist to prevent.[1][2]
